Taking place between June 6-8th 2019, the Royal Cornwall Show is Cornwall's biggest annual event and a must for the tick list!
Held annually, the Royal Cornwall Show is a family-friendly event with a long and proud tradition of celebrating all that’s best in food and farming in Cornwall.
First started in Bodmin in the late 1700’s as the Cornwall Agricultural Society, the Royal Cornwall Show has been attracting throngs of locals and visitors for hundreds of years. In the first ever event in September 1793, ploughing matches were held against competing Cornish farmers, whilst the following year “best in show” prizes were introduced for livestock.
With the event growing in scale every year, the number of competitions grew too. Amongst the weird and wonderful categories, eager entrants could compete for many an envy-inducing title. These included winner of the bee-keeping contest, owner of the fattest sheep (dead or alive!), grower of the biggest turnip, maker of the tastiest cheese and most skilled sheep shearer, to name but a few!
As popular as ever, these days, the Royal Cornwall Show is the county’s biggest annual event and continues to be a wonderful celebration of Cornish culture, tradition and expertise. Taking place between June 6th and June 8th this year, it caters for all generations and all interests with something for every member of the family, from the young-in-years to the young-at-heart.
If you have youngsters in your gang, head over to the dog and goats’ section of the show to see the rare breeds, before heading over to the main ring for live entertainment and music. Promoting Cornish-grown and Cornish-produced food, this is also a great event to go if you’re a foodie. With a huge number of cafés, restaurants and stands, learn all about local techniques and indulge your taste buds with delicious treats.
Packed full of exhibits, entertainment, competitions and activities, the only way to appreciate the scale of the Royal Cornwall Show is by experiencing it for yourself. Whether you are hoping to showcase your own products or skills, engage in a little networking or simply just enjoy the ride, you can immerse yourself in the lively atmosphere and appreciate the truly impressive array of home-grown talent.
